What is a Page?

It might seem like a simple question, but for printing we define a page as one printed side of a sheet. For example, a single A4 sheet has two pages (front and back). If that A4 sheet is folded in half, it becomes four A5 pages (two pages per folded sheet, front and back).

What are internals?

In printing, your book's internal pages (often called the "book block") are separate from the cover and need to be set up in their own file. The layout sequence is simple: Page 1 always starts on the right side, facing the inside front cover. From there, as you turn the pages, even numbers will always be on the left and odd numbers will always be on the right.

What is the Cover?

The cover is the printed outer section that is bound to the book block. It can be printed single-sided or double-sided. It’s important to understand that the inside front cover becomes the left-hand page when the book is first opened, with page 1 always starting on the right-hand side as the first page of the book block. Because of this, the cover must be set up correctly to ensure the internal pages flow in the right order. This is easily achieved by using the correct custom template for your project which can be created at the below link.

What are endsheets?

End sheets are the sheets of paper that attach the inside of a hardcover book to the book block. They act as a sturdy hinge to hold the book together while hiding the raw edges of the cover material. Along with providing essential structural support, end sheets give the inside of the book a clean, finished, and can be plain or printed.

What is the saftey margin?

In book printing, the safety margin is buffer zone inside your page's final cut line. When printing and cutting, shifts can occasionally happen. Keeping all vital text, logos, and graphics strictly within this safe area ensures you won't lose any important content.

what is page creep?

Page creep happens in saddle-stitched booklets when the thickness of folded paper pushes the inner pages outward. To create a flush edge, we trim these protruding pages during production. Although we adjust for creep in the printing process, it is best to restrict important info to the safety margins.

Can you square the spine?

Yes we can produce saddle-stitched books with a squared spine, reducing page spring and giving the books a more refined, professional finish. Please note that this must be requested, and we don't automatically square every project.
