What is foiling?
Foiling is the process of applying a thin metallic or pigmented foil to the surface of a book cover using heat and pressure, creating a striking, eye-catching finish. At Printbooks, we offer a range of foiling options, including digital foil, hot foil, and toner-based metallic inks.
can I foil soft and hardcover books?
Yes, we can foil all our covers, both soft and hardcover - we generally recommend having a laminate, and there are some limitations to both digital and hot foil so please contact us if you have any questions.
Can I foil my internal pages?
Technically, foiling internal pages is possible, but in practice the setup and foil costs usually make it unfeasible. If you’d like to achieve a similar effect, our metallic inks are often a more practical and cost-effective solution.
What foil colours do you carry?
Our standard foils include gold, rose gold, silver, green, red, clear, and holographic. We also offer an extensive range of additional foil colours and finishes available on special order.
How do I set up Foiling?
Foiling needs to be set up in its own print-ready PDF. Artwork should be set up at 100% black and positioned exactly where you want the foil to appear on the page. If you’re unsure, contact us — we’re happy to guide you through the setup.
How long does it take?
